The
Old Farmers Ball will sponsor an advanced dance on the
third Friday of the month beginning January 21, 2011.
It will be held from 8 to 11 pm at the Masonic Lodge on
the corner of Woodfin and Broadway near the I-240 Merrimon
exchange in downtown Asheville. Parking is available at
the Home Trust Bank across the street.
What
is an Advanced Dance?
Are you comfortable
with a hey for four? Can you easily keep the dance going
after the caller has stopped calling? Advanced dances are
held periodically and feature more complex dances with little
or no walk-throughs and no beginner instruction. This dance
is not intended to be exclusive. Mistakes happen in all
dances by most dancers, and are often fun. Dancers are not
expected to be perfect, but should be able to recover from
mistakes at the next change of neighbors. The contras will
be challenging and are aimed at experienced dancers. An
experienced dancer is adept enough to be able to do the
dance with little or no walk through of intermediate or
advanced moves.
If you want to bring
a new dancer along to see what contra is all about, they
are welcome to come observe and enjoy the music, but please
understand that this dance will not adjust to accommodate
beginners the way our regular weekly dances do. As always,
we encourage you to bring new dancers to the regular Thursday
dance, including the beginner lesson at 7:30. We love having
new folks at these dances and gladly adjust the program
to make sure everyone can “get it” and have a good time.
